I spent the last decade as treasurer, then president of AFT Vermont and for three years president of the Vermont AFL-CIO, and I think it’s time to eliminate unions’ right to collect mandatory agency fees from non-members. That’s what the ‘Right to Work’ bill in Congress would strike down in the private sector, and that’s what I hope the US Supreme Court strikes down for the entire public sector next term if it takes up Janus vs. AFSCME, heard in the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals March 1st. On Saturday President Trump at a press conference stated unequivocally that “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides,” His emphasis on many sides was on target, because the instigators of anarchy and violence in the public domain have been Left-leaning protesters in recent combative and violent events. The Leftist protestors assembled unlawfully under the guise of equality and call anything that does not agree with their narrative hate speech. WASHINGTON — A group of conservative black pastors and intellectual leaders on Monday defended President Donald Trump amid criticism of his initial response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend.
